USC Goes Down:
Continuing in its recent winning ways, Kentucky demolished the Gamecocks in Columbia 108-82. This ties the record for the most points scored against USC in recent times (Louisville scored this many against them several years ago).
UK trailed 5-4 when it went on a 14-0 spurt, and from there the Wildcats never looked back. Leading by 11 at intermission, UK did pretty much what it wanted, offensively and defensively. The press and trapping worked very well in this game, and there were 6 players scoring in double figures, including Rodney Dent who had a career high 17 points and who operated in the post very well. He did not miss a shot from the floor or from the free throw line. In addition, Martinez continued to play well at the center position. And this game saw the return of Jeff Brassow from knee surgery.
Rick Pitino in his weekly TV show that he had asked Dent to be more aggressive offensively in the future, and that he had challenged his team to score at least 105 points against South Carolina. Both events occurred. Pitino praised his team's spacing, passing, and general ball movement.
According to UK fan Rick Suffridge in his r.s.b.c post, about 1/4 of the crowd was for Kentucky (this is comparable to my estimate of about 1/3 of the crowd at the Georgia game). He also mentioned that the PA announcer at one point called out "How about 3 seconds?" in a most unprofessional and classless act. UK's 108 points ties its season scoring record (Kentucky also had 108 against Morehead State). UK is now 13-1 (4-1 in the conference), while South Carolina falls to 7-8 (3-3 in the SEC).
